I decided to write about procrastination because i’m very interested in this topic and I believe that everyone have or will encounter this problem at least once in his life whether it’s in the educational phase or in his professional life, especially entrepreneurs and freelancers. Today I have stumbled upon a thread in a forum in which a guy shared his experience with procrastination and how he managed and still managing to stop this bad habit or at least decrease the amount of minutes wasted throughout the day. He came with an amazing method which I will explain right now.

The Simple Method

The idea is to use a Chess Clock, which has two timers one next to the other that count the duration spent by each player (image bellow). You label one clock "Procrastinating" and the other "Productive". You guessed it, when surfing the web or doing anything that is just wasting time you iht the procrastinating side, and when working you hit the productive side. Simple and efficient. Not only you see the accumulation of time spent or wasted, but also the slapping of the big mechanical buttons would make you feel good, and, somehow, in control !

Save Your Time

Next step is to save the data. Which data ? Well the records of your time spent or wasted in a spreadsheet. You can use Excel if you have it. Or else, if you prefer doing this on phone or tablet or both, you can use Google Sheets, which I personally prefer as it I can access the spreadsheet anytime and anywhere I want. Additionally, this will help you keep track of your wasted time and spot when you're the most productive as well as what sucks your time the most then act upon it and take control over your habits to increase productivity.

Why not using an App to track time

Using technology nowadays is like getting inside a mall, you can easily be distracted by other items, things, chats...etc when you enter to it. So the answer is now, as it will easily get you to do something else and forget about why you took your device. I'm getting more and more attracted by one purpose devices. It really helps being productive.
